SOS! Silhouettes For Your Body Shape

Shopping for your wedding dress can cause you to become totally stumped on the different silhouettes that wedding dresses come in. Wedding dresses come in five different silhouettes. These silhouettes include ball gown, sheath, empire-waist, mermaid and A-line. Most Brides-to-be are unaware of these different silhouettes and therefore are confused as to what does or doesn't go for their body type. There are many influences of deciding on a silhouette, such as trying on every silhouette possible, the most popular silhouette for that time frame, or silhouettes that appeal most to them- but don't exactly fit. To be better prepared for that special day of wedding dress shopping, a bride-to-be should be well aware of the silhouettes in the store and the silhouettes that look best on their body shape. The following blogs on different silhouettes will introduce you to the 5 different silhouettes as well as show you what celebrity's are wearing what, and also introduce you to the silhouettes at MRS. Bridal Boutique.

Fairy Tale Ball Gown

Perfect for a fairy tale wedding. The ball gown has a very full bottom and synched waist. The defined waist of the ball gown creates an hour glass figure. Other women who want to hide their hips would benefit from the ball gown since it loosely flares over the hips. The ball gown also elongates the upper torso for those who want to create a fuller torso or fuller bust. If you want to look like Cinderella on your wedding day then look no further, this is the perfect dress for you.

Portia de Rossi is wearing a beautiful dropped waist ball gown on her wedding day. The skirt part of the dress is made from pale pink tulle.

Stunning Sheath

The Sheath dresses are made of soft and clingy materials gently flowing against the body while some sheath dresses are made from boning and constructed materials. This silhouette looks best on tall and slender, and short and petit body types. It is perfect for a vacation wedding since the dress is light weight and is made with less material than other wedding dresses.

Milla Jovovichs’ slender body looks fantastic in this sheath dress on her wedding day.

Empower Empire-Waist

The empire-waist dress features a synched band slightly under the bust. This is a romantic and versatile dress that fits any and EVERY body type. When looking at this dress the eyes look vertically up and down the body; therefore, the body appears elongated. The empire waist dress is perfect for a vacation wedding; the fabrics are typically light and flowy.

Tori Spelling on her wedding day is wearing a form fitted empire waist wedding gown with gold embroidery.

Mermaids Above the Sea

The mermaid silhouette is a curvaceous and formfitting wedding gown that shows off all the best assets a bride has to offer. Brides that want to show off their curves or brides wanting an hour-glass figure should strut down the aisle in a mermaid wedding dress. The mermaid hugs the body all the way down to the knees and then flares out. This dress is very trendy and extremely popular; it is designed in various ways and adds an exciting touch to any type of wedding.

Katie Holmes is wearing a mermaid dress on her wedding day with an extremely long stunning veil.

Found in MRS. Bridal Boutique is Casablanca Lilly, designed by Francesca Miranada.

A+ for A-line

A-line dresses are in the shape of an “A”- hence the name. The Classic A-line dress flares out from the waist or hip and flatters just about any body shape. The A-line silhouette can help hide’s tummy’s, hips and defines the waist. This silhouette lengthens the body since the dress is not broken up or divided and offers an elongating look. The A-line dress is known as a traditional dress since it can be worn to any type of wedding, whether it be a beach wedding or a modest church wedding.
